Sligo Rovers members were told of the dire state of the club finances and that the club needed €130,000 by the end of August to stay in Premier Division football to the end of the season.

As of yesterday, Tuesday 12 August the club have raised only a paltry €32,955 from all the fundraisers organised.

Just like Cobh the Sligo finances don't add up. Attendances more or less the same as last season & probably smaller squad...

Cobh have double the attendance & similar squad but in financial trouble.

That crowd don't have the money to donate.

Their accounts were published last week. They just about have a pot to piss in.

It just goes from bad to worse for the league. It would be a pity if they went bust.

Sligo struggling to stay alive

Sunday, 24 August 2008 12:29

QUOTE
Sligo Rovers have issued a fresh appeal for funds, as the financial crisis at the club continues.

A statement released by the club announced that only €44,000 had been raised so far, some way short of the €130,000 required to keep the club in business.

The club had set a deadline of 31 August to raise the money.

They have now urged the people of Sligo to come out in force for their upcoming home league games against Drogheda United and Bohemians.

They've also asked those who attend - including season tickets holders, committee members, stewards and press - to make a voluntary €20 contribution to the club.

Manager Paul Cook and his players have agreed to return their free passes for the remainder of the season.

If Sligo fold, the league itself is in danger.

Whether we like it or not, the eircom League is now in a serious crisis, and drastic measures are ging to have to happen soon.

Sligo are great for this league. They've a decent fanbase, are representative of the west of Ireland, and try to play good football with a promising young manager and lots of raw talent.
